The Buena Vista County Attorney's office is the servant of the citizens and taxpayers of Buena Vista County. It is our privilege to serve you.
The Buena Vista County Attorney is an elected position with a four year term of office. The duties of the position include:

Prosecute all crimes committed in the county.

Defend the county in all actions brought against it.

Legal advisor to the grand jury.

Collect money due on forfeited bonds.

Legal advisor to the Board of Supervisors and all other county officers, boards, and committees in official matters.
Under Iowa Law, the County Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer, chief prosecuting attorney, and the legal advisor and lawyer for our county government. Unlike other county positions that were created by the state legislature, the county attorney position was created by the Iowa Constitution. The objective of the Buena Vista County Attorney's office is to provide the highest level of professional service to the taxpayers in securing justice, holding criminals accountable, promoting the public health and safety, and maintaining and preserving the unique attributes of rural Iowa living. We pursue these aims by enforcing the criminal laws, promoting civil protection for crime victims, the disabled, abused and neglected children, and the environment.
